Civil Engineering Program



Civil Engineering Master’s Program with thesis, which is the graduate education program of the Department of Civil Engineering, is carried out with the instructors of Civil Engineering Department of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (academic working group consisting of 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 lecturer doctors, 3 research assistants) and laboratory facilities. The purpose of the program is tto train graduate engineers who are experts in a certain field of civil engineering, who have the ability to propose research, produce and analyze original research results, and can communicate verbally and in writing.


Within the program, there are Construction, Construction Materials and Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Hydraulic and Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and they provide service. The application requirements for the civil engineering graduate education program are determined by the Graduate Education Institute of Istanbul Arel University. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish. The courses, seminars and thesis topics to be taken by the students are determined under the supervision of the advisor, according to the fields of interest of the students and their career plans. For graduation, the student must complete 60 ECTS courses (eight courses including the seminar) and thesis work (30+30 ECTS) in 4 semesters (maximum 6 semesters) of 120 credits. In this process, s/he is required to give at least one research seminar and successfully defend a master’s thesis after preparing it.


Graduates of our department can work in their own offices, in various public and private institutions, and they can also be employed as academicians. However, candidates who have successfully completed their master’s education can study in doctoral programs, provided that they get sufficient grades from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.
