MEDICINE

The Department of Chest Diseases deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that develop primarily due to the lungs and the entire respiratory system. In addition to the allergic asthma (asthma) disease seen in children, which is one of the most important social health problems today, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema seen in older ages are of interest. Smoking cessation outpatient clinics, which are preventive health services, are included in the Department of Chest Diseases. It collaborates with “public health” medical units (e.g., family physicians) to combat air pollution, which is regarded as one of the leading causes of sickness in modern times, causing different organ malignancies, particularly the lungs, and hence mortality. In addition, it is a branch of medicine that performs the crucial tasks in airborne epidemics (eg COVID-19).
