The Department of Ophthalmology is the branch of science that deals with visual diseases and surgery. Despite covering a very small volume of our body, the eye is one of our most vital organs. We acquire 85 percent of the info that comes to our brain in daily life through our eyes, which are one of our five sensory organs. When viewed in this light, it is clear how strongly eye health is tied to overall health.

Eye examination should be performed periodically in early infancy, childhood and adulthood. Currently, babies should get an eye examination at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months of age, and the examination should be repeated every year, even if no problems are found.
Computerized and manual measurement and evaluation devices such as autorefractokeratometers, airpuff and applanation tonometers (for measuring eye pressure), biomicroscopes, and direct-indirect ophthalmoscopes are used in eye examinations.

In addition to refractive surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma/cornea/uvea/retina/vitreoretinal surgery interventions, neuroophthalmological, oculoplastic and strabismus surgeries are performed. Cataract surgeries can be performed with drop anesthesia and seamless phacoemulsification technique. In advanced vision loss due to diabetes, internal limiting membrane peeling with pars plana vitrectomy and advanced age-related macular degeneration treatments are other operations. Corneal transplants are performed using donor corneas obtained from eye banks. In addition to glaucoma (eye pressure), strabismus and retinal detachment surgeries, excimer laser applications for the correction of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia can be performed with lasik method and drop anesthesia.
